Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light Review
Price: $300.00 List | $239.99 at Amazon - 20% off
Pros: Lightweight, compact, easy assembly, washable, chemical free materials, stable
Cons: No bassinet
Bottom line: A high-end, ultralight travel crib with excellent design and chemical-free materials.
The Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light is a high quality travel crib, and the winner of our Editors' Choice Award. It stands out from it's competitors with an incredibly simple design and an easy, intuitive setup that will leave you wondering why one would make a travel crib any other way. Baby Bjorn is very conscious of using the best materials possible, with OEKO-TEX certified textiles and flame retardant free foam. The entire cover of the crib is easily removable and machine washable making spot cleaning a thing of the past. As one of the lightest travel cribs we tested, you do sacrifice features such as a bassinet. However, what you get is one of the most portable travel cribs on the market, with a footprint so small that it can be used almost anywhere; one that you would not only hesitate to bring for a few nights of tent camping, but due to its light weight and small size could also handle a 10-day trip to Europe if need be. If travel is a big part of your life, and you place a premium on size, weight, and materials safety, than we'd say this could be the ideal travel crib for your family.

Our Analysis and Hands-on Test Results
Baby Bjorn is a Swedish company, established in 1961. They produce a range of highly regarded products for children between the ages of 0-3 years, including baby carriers, bouncers, cradles, travel cribs and high chairs. Baby Bjorn is an industry leader when it comes to product safety, adhering to the most stringent materials standards in the form of OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification. All of their products are flame retardant-free. The company prides itself on design collaboration with pediatricians and medical professionals, resulting in products that are a cut above many competitors. The Baby Bjorn Light stands out from the competitors by combining these two important factors, leaving it with an amazingly simple design plus the use of top-notch materials. Add to that a compact design and fast, intuitive set up, and we were left with very little to criticize about this fantastic product. Weight and Size
The Baby Bjorn Light is a top scoring product with a 9 of 10 rating, a score equal to the Lotus Travel Crib. Both products are in a league of their own as compared to the other travel cribs in our review. We found weight and size to be extremely important considerations when selecting a travel crib. You'll likely be packing and carrying your travel crib on all kinds of trips, and the lighter it is, the easier it is to transport. We found the size and shape of the packaged product to be equally important, especially when you are tight on space. The Baby Bjorn and the Lotus both score equally in this category, but each has a unique shape that will appeal to different users depending on the primary type of travel it will be used for.
Weighing in at 13lbs 2oz, the Baby Bjorn is nearly equal in weight to the Lotus Travel Crib, and about a pound heavier than the Angel Care Journey Bee Portable Crib. This crib packs up into a suitcase shaped bag, and is one of the most compact travel cribs we tested. Although it is air travel carry-on legal, the dimensions are outside some airline carry-on limits so be sure to check before you go. We found this "suitcase" shape to be easier when packing into a car as it fit in places that other travel cribs would not.
Ease of Use
As far as keeping this bed clean, we were again pleasantly surprised. Accidents happen, and when it comes to infants and toddlers, they happen a lot. The ability to easily wash your travel crib is critical, and trying to "spot clean" by scrubbing stains out with a wet cloth can be frustrating and ineffective. The Bjorn has a removable cover that easily zips off and can be thrown in the washing machine. The cover on the mattress is also machine washable, making clean-up simple and easy, helping to ensure that your little one always has a clean place to sleep and play.
As parents, we want our children to feel safe, secure, and comfortable both at home and away. This crib, has a plush, yet firm feeling mattress that provides a comfortable sleeping environment, especially when paired with their Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light Fitted Sheet (sold separately). The mattress is 1.25" thick and made of 100% polyether foam. We also took the parents comfort into account, when using the product. Bending over multiple times a night to put your child in the crib can be tough. Our testers, particularly those who were shorter in stature, preferred the lower overall height of the Baby Bjorn, as compared to taller travel cribs such as the 4moms Breeze Playard.
OEKO-TEX Standard 100 approved, and the sewing and attention to detail is superb. We expected that the mesh fabric sides would be prone to abrasion and stretching, but despite lots of abuse, and attempted escapes, the sidewalls still look like new. All of the stitching held up well during testing, even after repeated washing. The frame of the crib is durable, and has proven to be up to the abuse a young toddler can dish out. The mattress still feels as plush as it did on day one, even after months of use. We also appreciate the tough carrying bag. The fabric is thicker than the other travel crib bags we tested, and we it should stand up to all the travel abuse you can throw at it.
At $299 the Bjorn is not cheap. However, as with many products, we think you'll find you get what you pay for. If travel is a big part of your life, and you are not looking to curtail the trips when baby arrives, then the BabyBjorn is worth every penny. We feel that the excellent design and top-notch materials warrant the high price.
Winner of our Editors' Choice Award, this is a highly refined, top-quality travel crib. A simple design, intuitive set up, and materials free of chemicals and flame retardants set this crib apart from its competitors. With features like a completely removable, washable cover and full length mesh sidewalls, it is hard to find fault with this product. Our testers immediately fell in love with the easy set up and compact design. This is the travel crib we'd choose to use with our own children in order to give them a safe, comfortable sleeping area when we're away from home.
Other Versions and Accessories
The previous version of this product is called the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light 2. We did not test this product, but the main difference appears to be that the mesh fabric does not run the full length of the walls. We prefer the full-length mesh of the current product for safety reasons. Sold separately is the Baby Bjorn Travel Crib Light Fitted Sheet made of organic cotton and which we used during testing. The fit was excellent and we recommend you consider purchasing the sheet to go along with the travel crib.
