The Skinny

The Storchenwiege Woven Wrap is a fabric wrap carrier with multiple positions and wrap possibilities. This carrier is a heavy material wrap that ties to secure and can be used for little ones from newborn to 3+ years. It is machine washable, and spot cleans easily. Unfortunately, this wrap is hang to dry only and is harder to adjust and put baby inside than some of the competition. Because the fabric is not stretchable, you need to put the baby in before you can secure it, which increases the difficulty. While the Storchenwiege is comfortable enough for both parents and baby, it isn't as comfortable as the competition and the price is significantly higher than easier to use wraps like the Baby K-tan Original, which also scored higher overall and in every metric.

Performance Comparison

The chart below includes the overall scores for each carrier tested in this review including the Storchenwiege Woven Wrap (in blue) for a quick comparison.

The sections below include information on the performance of the Storchenwiege compared to the competition in our tests.

Because the Storchenwiege fabric lacks any stretch there is no give for little ones to find the perfect resting space.

Baby's Comfort

The Storchenwiege earned a 6 of 10 for baby's comfort. This score is slightly above average and not terrible, but it is lower than comfort for most of the competing wraps like the Moby Wrap and the Baby K'tan Original.

The thicker fabric on the Storchenwiege could leave you feeling overheated.
Some of the positions for the Storchenwiege are more comfortable for little ones than others with more back and head support.

There are multiple positions little ones can sit in, and some seemed cozier than others. We suspect the lack of stretchability impact comfort and is why little ones appear more comfortable in the competition.

The ability to pull the fabric to cover a wider surface area can be more comfortable once the baby is in the wrap.
The way the Storchenwiege rolls in certain carry positions can put too much pressure on a small area or on places not designed to hold baby's weight. Not all parents liked the way the carrier felt over time.

Parent's Comfort

The Storchenwiege earned a 6 of 10 for parent comfort. This score is about average which means for some testers it was fine and if they'd never tried another carrier, they may not known other options were more comfortable. The variety of fold and wrap options for this carrier means most parents will be able to find a wrap they like that feels like they can wear it for longer adventures. Testers like that the fabric can be pulled wide to cover more surface area, so less pressure rests on a small area. On the downside, this much fabric, the thickness of the material, and the layering of the wrap for certain holds mean you can get overheated depending on the weather.

The variety of wrap option for the Storchenwiege results in a higher learning curve for users.

Ease of Use

The Storchenwiege earned a 3 of 10 for ease of use. This score is the lowest in the group and indicates that we had real difficulty using the wrap. The manual has a lot of instructions for a variety of different wraps and holds. It is a little confusing and more involved than most of the other wraps we tested.

You can't finish the wrap of the Storchenwiege until after you have the baby in the fabric which increases difficulty.

Putting the carrier on and getting the baby in is similar to the stretchy wraps but you have to put your baby in before you can tie it off because there is no give to the material. The lack of flex makes it harder to manage and means a greater potential for error. Once you get baby inside you'll need to go back then and make further adjustments to the fabric and shift the baby around to get a good fit and a comfortable hold. It isn't necessarily difficult, but it is more convoluted and involved than the ring slings and soft structured carriers that don't require all the wrapping, twisting and tying. The Baby K'tan Original is a wrap style without all the wrapping making it significantly easier to use if what you desire is a wrap.

The Storchenwiege Wrap can be machine washed but you need to hang it to dry.

Ease of Cleaning

The Storchenwiege earned a 6 of 10 for ease of cleaning. This carrier can be machine washed on hot, but it needs to be hanged to dry. Depending on your climate it can take awhile to dry fully. It is easier to spot clean on the go, however, which is a real plus if baby spits up or you spill something on the fabric.
